Selección Batallé is developing the RESILDUR project in collaboration with researchers from the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA). The main objective of this project is to design and implement a genomic selection scheme in the Batallé Duroc line focused on simultaneously improving disease resilience, reproduction and animal welfare, while maintaining production efficiency and meat quality.
This project is a pioneer in jointly addressing resilience against various pathogens such as the PRRS virus, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae or Streptococcus suis and other disruptive factors throughout all production stages. The goal is to identify Duroc animals carrying genetic variants associated with higher prolificacy and natural disease resilience.
The RESILDUR project will contribute to improving animal health, welfare and reproductive performance, minimizing the impact of infectious outbreaks and reducing the need for medicinal treatments, including a decrease in antibiotic use. Overall, the project will contribute to a more efficient and sustainable pig production, maintaining meat quality and food safety standards.
The RESILDUR project is funded by Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación (CDTI), under Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, and its activities will take place between 2024-2028.
