The R&D project named “Improvement of nutritional and technological quality of pork by
applying genomics and nutrigenomics techniques” developed by Cárnica Batallé and the
University of Lleida has gained the support of the European Rural Development Fund (FEDER)
of the European Union. This project has also received support from the Centre for the
Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI).
The project will be developed between 2015 and 2017 and whose main objective is to obtain
pigs whose meat present less saturated fat and more monounsaturated fat. To produce this
type of pigs, in the framework of the project we will (1) identify diets that increase
monounsaturated fats in meat (2) implement a control system to measure meat quality on-
line at the cutting plant and (3) identify genetic markers with positive effects on the
nutritional quality of the fat.
